I’ve put together a list of my favorite go to and must have natural and cruelty free beauty products that I use every day in my beauty routine to keep my skin and hair looking healthy and glowing.
I am a product junkie and have an obsession with all things beauty. So I began my journey to learn about natural remedies for skin care and hair care. I now obsessively check labels and research a company thoroughly before I even think about purchasing something from them. But sometimes simpler is better so this is a list of not only my favorites, but my tried and true go to’s.
1.Raw Unfiltered Honey.
I searched for natural acne treatments (because honey did I have it. teehee pun intended) and one of the first Pinterest pins I came across was a girl who used honey to completely clear her acne. She used it as a mask and face wash. So I tried it out. Couldn’t hurt since I tried everything else under the sun. Mostly just letting it sit on my face. It worked miracles! It reduced the size of the existing pimples, it helped reduce the appearance of scars, and it made my skin so soft. My skin is always brighter and more youthful looking after I use it. I also use it in masks with lemon, cinnamon, and turmeric. I just spread it on, just like any other mask, and let it sit for 30 minutes. I’ve let it sit for a few hours before and the results are even better.
2. Tea Tree Oil
It smells strong. And I mean strong. But OMG does it work. I usually get mine from Trader Joe’s and it last for a long time but there’s not stopper so if you prefer one, there’s links above. I follow Dr.Axe on Youtube and this was something he mentioned in one of his videos. It’s naturally anti-bacterial so it can be used for everything from acne to shampoo. I even put it in my DIY apple Cider vinegar toner. The recipe is here.
I apply it by using a few drops on a q-tip or cotton swab and hold it on the zit for 30 seconds or so. It doesn’t burn or sting, but like I said before it doesn’t exactly have a pleasant scent. Almost instantly the size shrinks and the next morning, it’s bye bye Mr. Pimple. I use this when a really painful zit pops up. 3. Apple cider vinegar
I was searching through youtube (can you tell I’m a youtube junkie?) and came across Funkmaster Diaries video on using Apple Cider Vinegar to clear her acne. Check it out, you won’t regret it. She had been not only using it topically, but also drinking it daily. All the symptoms that she was saying she had were the exact same ones I was experiencing.
I prefer the Bragg’s brand brand but have also used the Trader’s Joe’s brand as well. I didn’t really see as huge difference in the reduction of acne from drinking it as I would have liked, but using it topically as a toner has worked so well for my skin. My toner recipe using Apple Cider Vinegar can be found here. I do still drink it if I ever have indigestion,heartburn or an upset tummy.
4. Indian Healing Bentonite Clay
I can’t quite remember how I came across this miracle stuff (I want to say Farah Duhkai from YouTube) but I’m not sure. All I can say is don’t spend money on fancy pre-made masks, get you a tub of this. It’s relatively cheap and it lasts a long time.
You can combine it with water or if you have large pores and oily skin like me apple cider vinegar. It has instructions right on the jar. You can actually feel your face pulse and I’ve combined it with cinnamon, turmeric, aspirin, and charcoal, although not all at the same time, to get the benefits of using those ingredients too. It can make your face red, so don’t leave it on too long. It really cleans all of the gunk out of your pores. Like all of it. I’ve used it in a sort of facial boot camp before where I use it everyday for an extended period of time, and my pores noticeably shrink over time. Want to try the boot camp with me? 5. Coconut oil
This stuff is amazing. I cook with it, use it to shave, and use it to remove my make up at the end of the day. I have even used it to moisturize my hair with hot oil treatments. It has even more uses than what I’ve named, but those are the main ways I use it EVERY DAY. I use it to oil pull every once in a while too. It makes you feel as if you’ve been to the dentist. Just pour some into your mouth and swish it around while you’re in the shower shaving with moisturizing coconut oil.
Other honorable mentions
Activated charcoal, essential oils such as rosemary, peppermint, and lavender (How do you think I got my hair as long as I did?), and coffee (for exfoliation).
Just a quick note. Try these out at your own discretion.Maybe do a test patch. I know that we don’t all have the same skin types and body make ups and sometimes some things just don’t work out for us the same way:)
