Why should I use a toner you ask? Well according to the this article on, you should use it for many reasons. One of them being it restores the pH balance of your skin after washing. Throwing off the pH balance in the skin can lead to skin issues such as wrinkles, inflammation, and even acne. I don’t know about you, but those aren’t exactly things I want to deal with if I can help it. Below I show you how to make your own toner to help you clear acne and brighten skin.

Knowing that I should use toner and wanting to be cruelty free, I choose to make my own. I came up with this recipe by using an idea from these two ladies Farah Dhukai and Funkmaster Diaries on YouTube. It combines Green Tea and Apple Cider Vinegar. It’s super easy to make and cost very little money. The great thing about this recipe is that you can totally drink it, so you know it’s perfectly safe to put on your skin.

I’ve found that Apple Cider Vinegar benefits the inside and the outside of my body. I use it to keep my digestive system running smoothly and I use it in my hair as a conditioner. See the recipe here.  Using it as a toner for my face has helped keep my oils balanced and helps with my acne. Here’s how I make it.

How to make it:

Apple Cider Vinegar-3 oz. As you can see I use Bragg’s but any raw unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar will do.

Green Tea (Make 3 to 4 bags and allow to cool)-3oz

optional– essential oils (I used tea tree and lavender)- 15 drops each. I’ve made it with and without before.

Plastic container– My bottle is 6oz. and from target in the travel toiletry section. It was $1.00.

1.Pour in your Apple Cider Vinegar.

2. Pour in your cooled Green Tea.

3. Pour in your essential oils if you plan on using them. 10 to 15 drops for each. Remember this part is optional.

4. Shake vigorously and pour a small amount onto a cotton pad. If you used the raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar, it may have some of the mother (cloudy gooey good for you substance) in it. Don’t worry, it won’t hurt you:)

5. Gently apply to your face in a circular swiping motion, allow to dry, and then add your favorite serum then moisturizer.

6. Store in a cool dry place or in the refrigerator.

The results:

This 6oz. bottle typically last me about 2-3 weeks. If it begins to smell, it’s time to whip up another batch.

The Green Tea tends to cover up the smell of the Apple Cider Vinegar. Adding the essential oils help with the smell as well. You’ll also notice that I used a 1:1 ratio of Apple Cider Vinegar to water or 1 part ACV to 1 part Green Tea. If you have more sensitive skin or the smell is just too much, drop it down to a 1:4 ratio of ACV to Green Tea or 1 part ACV to 4 Green Tea.

See…easy peasy and fun creating your own product! Affordable, easy to make, great for your skin, natural, and cruelty free!

Let me know down below in the comments how you liked it or if you used another liquid in place of the Green Tea.

Cruelty Free Product Reviews

I’ve compiled a list of Cruelty Free Product Reviews of makeup, skincare, and household products.  A few years ago, I decided to embark on a cruelty free lifestyle.  After learning of all the cruel and torturous things they do to test products on animals, I decided to go completely cruelty free. It’s a fun journey filled with a ton of research. I hope through this post to share some knowledge, give real reviews, and make it easier to go cruelty free too. ♥This post contains affiliate links. Thank you for your support:) If you’d prefer to check out the product without my Amazon link, I’ve included website links in which I receive no compensation. Happy Shopping!♥

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz and Brow Definer I’ve used the Anastasia Beverly Hills brow wiz for a couple years…way before I knew it was cruelty free (Thank goodness it is!). I also began using her brow definer which has become my go to brow product. They are expensive, but they last for a long time, so it eases the sting of the price tag. They also come in 10 colors so you know you’ll find your shade. It blends really well and can be brushed through to your desired look with the awesome attached spoolie. If you’re looking for a brow product that lasts and lives up to all the hype, definitely give the Brow Wiz or Brow definer a try.

ELF Brushes and Brush Cleaner That’s Eyes, Lips, Face if you didn’t know.  You can find this brand at most drug stores, but I’ve gotten most of my brushes from Target. They are really inexpensive and last a long time. They are coming out with so many new brushes and they are high quality too. You really don’t feel like you’re spending less than $7 or $8. The brush cleaner is great for those daily brush cleanings and it smells wonderful. If you’re looking for inexpensive makeup brushes, ELF would be the perfect place to start.

Milani Extreme Liquid Eyeliner I’m pretty sure I’ve been using this eyeliner for over 10 years. It is one of my all time favorites. It’s easy to apply, jet black, and doesn’t budge until you tell it to. I’m not sure if they’ve always been cruelty free, but thank goodness they are. It’s affordable, lasts a long time, and so easy to use…even for a liner novice.

Too Faced Cocoa Powder Foundation One of my favorite high end brands. They have a great range of products. But my favorite by far is the Cocoa Powder Foundation. It smells like chocolate! Pretty hard not to lick my face when I use it. IT goes on smoothly and blends well. It’s definitely light to medium coverage, so if you’re looking for a full coverage powder, this is probably not the one for you. Great to put over a liquid foundation though. I did notice that they discontinued some of the colors, so the darker your skin the more difficult it is to find. Smells wonderful and goes on well.

Cover FX Foundation Drops These foundation drops are magical! You can pretty much make your own foundation depending on whatever you blend it into. I’ve used primer, moisturizer, SPF, and facial oil. You can make it sheerer or fuller coverage based on how many drops you use. I’ve gotten the best results using their primer, but don’t let that stop you from experimenting! They’re expensive…not gonna lie. But I’ve had a bottle last me for a year. And they have 24 different shades. You can put powder foundation or setting powder on top and voile! Flawless skin.

Skin Care

Coola I use their Unscented Matte Tint SPF. I’m onto bottle number 5 or 6 now. It’s that amazing! It’s so light and blendable. No white cast…even on my brown skin. And it soaks into the skin really well. It gives a very small amount of color so if you’re looking for a full coverage SPF, you may want to try something else. Such a great product, especially for us girls who are on the oily side. This is a great brand in general. I’ve been able to try some of their other products such as their new SPF Primer, but nothing will compare to my Matte Tint.

Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Daily Peel I’ve been using the Dr Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Peels for about 7 years now. They are amazing! You will never so your skin look so clear, bright and glowing as you do the morning after using one of these peels. Can’t say enough good things about them. They make your skin look younger. They help with brightening and getting rid of dark spots and acne. They’re not harsh or irritating. The only thing is the price. They can be expensive so I tend to use them every other day. I also purchase from Ebay to combat the price. Just be careful and make sure they’re a reputable seller and aren’t giving you expired product. You’ll thank me for this one. I promise.

Paula’s choice A great range of products that work! They have so many great products geared towards mature skin. You can never start to early in my opinion. But my favorite and most effective is the Benzoyl Peroxide Treatment 2.5%. Paula’s Choice offers it in and 5% as well if you want something a little bit stronger. You can use it as a spot treatment, but it’s gentle enough to be massaged over the entire face. There’s a noticeable difference of skin clearing when you sleep in it and I even wear it under my makeup. It’s more expensive than a drug store brand, but you can make it last longer by only using it at night. It doesn’t irritate my skin or make it flaky like some benzoyl peroxide products can. They offer travel sizes if you want to try it out and save a little bit of money.

Eminence My husband running a spa has its perks. He introduced me to the Coconut Age Corrective Moisturizer. This Moisturizer is amazing! A little goes a long way too. Just a pinky nails work will cover your whole face and it corrects over night.  It makes my skin look so good when I wake up. I’ve used their Stone crop gel wash as well. It’s such a great skin care line. But this little beauty is my all time favorite!

Thanks for reading my Cruelty Free Product Reviews. I hope my recommendations and reviews help you even a little in your cruelty free lifestyle no matter how long the journey has been for you. If you want more reviews and brand lists check out This site will make your journey easier too!

Must have Natural Beauty Products

♥This post contains affiliate links. Although it may be cheaper to buy at your local health food store:)♥

I’ve put together a list of my favorite go to and must have natural and cruelty free beauty products that I use every day in my beauty routine to keep my skin and hair looking healthy and glowing.

I am a product junkie and have an obsession with all things beauty. So I began my journey to learn about natural remedies for skin care and hair care. I now obsessively check labels and research a company thoroughly before I even think about purchasing something from them. But sometimes simpler is better so this is a list of not only my favorites, but my tried and true go to’s.

1.Raw Unfiltered Honey.

I searched for natural acne treatments (because honey did I have it. teehee pun intended) and one of the first Pinterest pins I came across was a girl who used honey to completely clear her acne. She used it as a mask and face wash. So I tried it out. Couldn’t hurt since I tried everything else under the sun. Mostly just letting it sit on my face. It worked miracles! It reduced the size of the existing pimples, it helped reduce the appearance of scars, and it made my skin so soft. My skin is always brighter and more youthful looking after I use it. I also use it in masks with lemon, cinnamon, and turmeric. I just spread it on, just like any other mask, and let it sit for 30 minutes. I’ve let it sit for a few hours before and the results are even better.

2. Tea Tree Oil

It smells strong. And I mean strong. But OMG does it work. I usually get mine from Trader Joe’s and it last for a long time but there’s not stopper so if you prefer one, there’s links above. I follow Dr.Axe on Youtube and this was something he mentioned in one of his videos. It’s naturally anti-bacterial so it can be used for everything from acne to shampoo. I even put it in my DIY apple Cider vinegar toner. The recipe is here.

I apply it by using a few drops on a q-tip or cotton swab and hold it on the zit for 30 seconds or so. It doesn’t burn or sting, but like I said before it doesn’t exactly have a pleasant scent. Almost instantly the size shrinks and the next morning, it’s bye bye Mr. Pimple. I use this when a really painful zit pops up. If you want to learn more about it’s benefits you can head over to Dr.Axe’s site.  Check out Dr.Axe to find some of his other skin care remedies.

3. Apple cider vinegar

I was searching through youtube (can you tell I’m a youtube junkie?) and came across Funkmaster Diaries video on using Apple Cider Vinegar to clear her acne. Check it out, you won’t regret it. She had been not only using it topically, but also drinking it daily. All the symptoms that she was saying she had were the exact same ones I was experiencing.

I prefer the Bragg’s brand brand but have also used the Trader’s Joe’s brand as well. I didn’t really see as huge difference in the reduction of acne from drinking it as I would have liked, but using it topically as a toner has worked so well for my skin. My toner recipe using Apple Cider Vinegar can be found here. I do still drink it if I ever have indigestion, heartburn or an upset tummy.

4. Indian Healing Bentonite Clay

I can’t quite remember how I came across this miracle stuff (I want to say Farah Duhkai from YouTube) but I’m not sure. All I can say is don’t spend money on fancy pre-made masks, get you a tub of this. It’s relatively cheap and it lasts a long time.

You can combine it with water or if you have large pores and oily skin like me apple cider vinegar. It has instructions right on the jar. You can actually feel your face pulse and I’ve combined it with cinnamon, turmeric, aspirin, and charcoal, although not all at the same time, to get the benefits of using those ingredients too. It can make your face red, so don’t leave it on too long. It really cleans all of the gunk out of your pores. Like all of it.  I’ve used it in a sort of facial boot camp before where I use it everyday for an extended period of time, and my pores noticeably shrink over time. Want to try the boot camp with me? Here’s the recipe.

5. Coconut oil

This stuff is amazing. I cook with it, use it to shave, and use it to remove my make up at the end of the day. I have even used it to moisturize my hair with hot oil treatments. It has even more uses than what I’ve named, but those are the main ways I use it EVERY DAY.  I use it to oil pull every once in a while too. It makes you feel as if you’ve been to the dentist. Just pour some into your mouth and swish it around while you’re in the shower shaving with moisturizing coconut oil.

Other honorable mentions

Activated charcoal, essential oils such as rosemary, peppermint, and lavender (How do you think I got my hair as long as I did?), and coffee (for exfoliation).

Just a quick note. Try these out at your own discretion.Maybe do a test patch. I know that we don’t all have the same skin types and body make ups and sometimes some things just don’t work out for us the same way:)
